About the council

A trusted broker between two friendly economies.

The Gambia China Business Council is a member-led institution dedicated to deepening commercial ties between The Gambia and the People's Republic of China — building on decades of diplomatic friendship, infrastructure grants and shared development goals.

Our work aligns with the Forum on China–Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), the Belt and Road Initiative, the African Union's Agenda 2063 and the UN 2030 Agenda — synergising Africa's resources and market potential with China's investment, equipment and technology.

Our purpose

Mission & vision

To promote The Gambia as an attractive destination for Chinese trade and investment, and to facilitate market-oriented cooperation that expands from commodity trading into production capacity, local manufacturing and technology transfer.

Vision

A prosperous, industrialised Gambia serving as the commercial gateway to West Africa — where every partnership travels the arc from trade, to investment, to industrialisation, to shared prosperity.

Gambia & China

A friendship already written in infrastructure.

The relationship is tangible. Chinese grants delivered the Fatoto–Basse road and bridge, opening the country's east, and the Gambia International Conference Centre now anchors the nation's diplomatic calendar. Ambassadors on both sides — and the Economic & Commercial Office of the Chinese Embassy in Banjul — actively champion deeper cooperation.

GCBC builds on that foundation, moving the relationship from government-led projects toward market-oriented, private-sector partnerships with lasting industrial value.
